While many studies have been conducted on the separate issues of mental health issues and addiction, it has only been recently that research has acknowledged the importance of looking at these conditions together. Dual diagnosis is the term for when an individual with addiction also has a co-occurring mental health issue. In order to help patients return to work healthy, it’s important they receive integrated treatment that addresses every aspect of their dual diagnosis.
