Through its groundbreaking treatment centers, Foundations Recovery Network has developed a highly successful program for treating those with a Dual Diagnosis. The Foundations model is now recognized throughout the world for its tremendous success rate for treating those at risk.
Essential knowledge about the Foundations Model
A non-confrontational model +
In the past, many rehab programs have focused on a confrontational style of treatment that directly challenges the belief system of the individual. The Foundations model recognizes that this approach is not wholly appropriate for those with a Dual Diagnosis. This model chooses to engage rather than confront the individual.
Low drop-out rates, higher success rates +
The centers using the Foundations model have some of the lowest drop-out rates in the industry. Even more impressive is the rate of success for those who complete the program. Through comprehensive outcomes data on clients six and twelve months after program discharge, a 3-year SAMHSA-funded evaluation of Foundations Recovery Network’s residential programs indicated abstinence in 70 to 80 percent of Foundations clients up to one year following treatment. Severity of psychiatric symptoms was reduced by 60 percent, with corresponding improvements in quality of life.
A selection of innovative practices +
The Foundations model is comprised of several key procedures and practices:
- A motivational approach. By engaging the individual and using a variety of motivational techniques, staff members working in the Foundations model are able help patients in a non-confrontational manner.
- Integrated treatment. Placing all mental illness and addiction treatments under one roof allows for a much more comprehensive treatment program– and one that been proven successful. During their time in a Foundations program, the individual will encounter of variety of professionals, including psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and licensed alcohol and drug counselors.
- Sharing the evidence. As additional motivation, the staff will share the success stories of the Foundations model with those involved in the program. These lessons take on the form of classroom instruction but are actually an important motivational technique to help individuals see that success is definitely attainable.
- Client-directed treatment. Foundations Recovery Network understands that all people are different, and what works for one individual may not be effective for another. As a result, the treatment gives the individual a good measure of control in terms of the goals and the pace of the program, making them more active partners in their own program.
